The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has just released the list of 35 animated films eligible for the 98th Academy Awards. It’s important to highlight that some films have not yet met the minimum theatrical exhibition time required by the Academy. These titles will only become eligible for voting after securing their qualifying release and meeting all remaining eligibility criteria. The list of pending films was not disclosed in today’s announcement.

It may seem surprising, but Ne Zha 2 — the highest-grossing animated film of all time, with $1.8 billion at the box office — has been left off the list. Academy members will vote to determine the five nominees for Best Animated Feature Film at the 98th Oscars. It’s worth noting that these films may also compete in other categories. Many believe, for example, that ‘Golden,’ by Huntr/x (from KPop Demon Hunters), will compete for Best Original Song.
